Maybe
the Viña y Rosales guest house with
its red roof is different because saddle
roofs in this part of the Alpujarras valley are not very much around.
Except for the church, the roofs of houses here are flat and covered
with 'launa', a blueish grey clay, that "closes" if wet and
"breathes" when dry. The house with the red tiled roof was
named as such years ago because it was visible at quite a distance from
the village of Mairena.
Having
a rose tree and even older vine, it is named casa rural
Viña y Rosales.
An Andalusian guest house with remarkable architecture, agreeable atmosphere
and the richness of history. With a garden having her own spring, Viña y Rosales offers you
a wonderful comfortable and exclusive bed and breakfast accommodation or B&B holiday lodging
when on vacation. Or of course feel very welcome when you would come to travel past this scenic mountain
village of Mairena, in the beautiful valley of the Alpujarras.
Mairena is one of these villages where time ceases to exist.
Where harvests and firewood are still hauled by a donkey. Where the
shepherd with sheep and goats pass through the village. Where whitewashed
houses seem organically formed, from Moorish times onwards.
Where colourful flower pots and bougainvilleas hang down the facades and balconies.
Where, except for a small bar and some shops, there is nothing more than tranquility,
wonderful fresh air and plenty of wild nature. A very splendid environment for a memorable
rural holiday you could experience right here!
Las Alpujarras is a valley which stretches from west to east on
the southern slope of the Sierra Nevada. White villages are seperated
by regular distances from three to ten kilometres, at an average height
of one thousand meters above sea level. Around the villages there is
small scale agriculture. This gives the area an unique mixture of agricultural
developed landscape, within unspoiled nature. There is always water,
running down via an ingenious system of water canals dating from Moorish
times.
There
are many superb walking tracks most suitable for trekking
- including the grande randonee E4 / GR7 ( for more information
- click here) and the SULAYR route, circumferencing the Sierra Nevada.
Wonderful walks are also to be made near the village of Mairena, in the council
of Nevada. Over the last seven years eco rural / ecotourism or agriturismo / agroturismo
has become more popular in the Alpujarras. The diversity of nature in the greater region of the Siera Nevada
has no equivalence compared to the whole of Europe!
